Last days of summer

The days have started to get shorter, there is a slight chill in the evening air and more rainy days are a part of the weather forecast. Yes summer is coming to a close. We are now headed back to school, watching football, eating comfort foods, and fall activities on crisp days.

This year our summer has been filled with family visits, beach days, and exploring the local area that we are now residing in. Over all it has been a very nice summer, but I must say that I am looking forward to the fall and winter season.

Our last days of summer will end with a couple’s weekend at our home which will include a barbeque, dinner at a local restaurant and a visit to Assateague Island.

First Look!

It has been a long time coming but three months ago my husband bought me a new camera… a DSLR! Wow! What a big difference from my point and shoot camera. I am thoroughly enjoying my new Canon EOS Rebel T3i with its EFS18-15mm and 55-250mm lens.

I started shooting with an Olympus C-2100 10x optical zoom digital camera and then upgraded to the Olympus SP-560UZ 18x optical zoom. I must tell you that when I purchased my second Olympus camera my hubby thought that I should get a DSLR. Of course I convinced myself that I had not mastered the skills to warrant that kind of an investment. I quickly out grew my Olympus SP-560. I realized that I had made a big mistake and I found myself lamenting about passing up on the opportunity to purchase a DSLR camera. I knew that my husband was ready to make that investment but I told myself that I was simply not ready. With that being said, let me share with you some words of wisdom that have helped me on my photography journey.

If you truly have a passion for photography then...

1. Don’t second guess yourself; it will only undermine what you know that you can do.

2. Stick with your photography.

3. Don’t make excuses for your photos, suggesting that your photos could be better if you had a different camera.

4. Work with the camera that you have and shoot the heck out of it.

5. The photography world is constantly changing and you should be prepared to change with it.

So if you are just beginning your photography journey, whether it is as a professional photographer, an amateur photographer, or as a weekend hobby I hope that you will remember my five photographer points of wisdom.

Family Connecting & Sharing…

Growing up it was just my sister and I. At the end of my junior year in high school I did find out that I had a half brother. And by that time I had decided that when I did get married I would have at least six children. When I began a serious relationship with LJN, I told him that I would like to have a large family. He wasn’t a bit uncomfortable with my maternal desire, being the fact that he is the youngest of seven, he clearly understood why I found delight in having more than one or two children… we ended up stopping at four! I quickly realized that raising a child is much harder than it looks on television or in the movies. Children are an enormous blessing from God and as parents we are to raise our children to go out and be on their own. In Proverbs 22:6 it says to Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. And as parents many of us pray that we have done just that.

Children are a heritage from the Lord. Psalm 127:3

I have connected with my husband’s siblings and their children in such a way that it all but makes up for me growing up with “just my sister.” And talk about two opposite personalities my sister and I, one a tomboy and one a book nerd. I love my husband’s family and have a strong desire to keep us all connected and sharing our lives with one another.

After my Memorial Day posting I received an e-mail from my sister-in-law, she said, “thank you for capturing the moments of our lives”. That thank you lead to the creation of a website named PhotomomentsbyTrish, hopefully this site will provide another place where our family can come together to pray for one another, praise each other, reminisce and share our thoughts.

Our time of connecting and making promises to get in touch and keep in touch at family funerals must come to an end.

The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone.
